Israeli soldiers shot and killed two Palestinians at the Beit Einun Junction near Hebron in the occupied West Bank on Sunday in what the army said was an attempted attack on soldiers.
The Israeli army said that two men arrived at the intersection, and one of them tried to “stab Israeli soldiers who were in the area, who responded with live ammunition and neutralized him.”
The army said that another man “opened fire on the soldiers, who responded with live ammunition and neutralized him as well.”
The Palestinian Ministry of Health in the West Bank announced that the two young men were Muhammad Jabareen (19 years old) and Musa Jabareen (18 years old).
A video believed to be of the incident, which CNN cannot independently verify, shows a man crouching down behind a large concrete block — which the Israeli military often places at checkpoints and intersections to create barricades and block roads.
The man does not appear to be moving, and it is not immediately clear in the video whether he is holding anything in his hands. After about 30 seconds, gunfire was heard and the man fell to the ground.
There was only one man in the video.
Acts of violence by settlers and Israeli forces escalated in the occupied West Bank during the Israeli war on Gaza.
